Over the past decade, cyclists on a budget have been stuck between their old, underperforming components and the high performance gear that are part and parcel of new bikes. But things have started to change over the past couple of years, with newer technologies (10 speed, Hollowtech II, etc) filtering down from the high to low end at a faster pace than the years previous. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the name Jeremiah Bishop, all you really need to know is that he’s one of the top cross country riders in the United States. In November of ‘06, Bishop took part in La Ruta de Los Conquistadors, an epic marathon race staged in Costa Rica, and after a couple of days was challenging for the overall lead. Full entry »

The Mission Control damping system for Rock Shox was developed by the folks over at SRAM for the company’s new generation of long-travel, single crown forks. It includes externally-adjustable high and low speed compression settings, rebound and Floodgate (Rock Shox’s version of a platform // lockout) controls. Full entry »

The 2006 Tour de France will be remembered for a couple of memorable stages: Floyd Landis’ catastrophic crack in the Alps on stage 16 and his miraculous comeback the following day. Of course, all of that hard work was obliterated the moment news leaked out that Landis failed a drug test and, before the results could be challenged, the mainstream media took the story and ran with it. Everyone knows about Ride to the Hills, Stripped, The Collective, Earthed, New World Disorder, and Kranked — they’re all at or near the top of many mountain bikers lists of favourite biking vids — but bikes have always found a soft spot in the heart of some Hollywood exec that’s enough to secure the cash to put together a full-length feature. We stock, carry, and sell our share of Norco road bikes over the course of the season and we keep pretty close tabs on what’s going on in that part of the cycling world. The inexperienced commentator might argue that road bikes rarely change but that’s obviously not the case, with companies like SRAM making a significant investment by introducing its Force gruppo to the world this past year. I love watching mountain bike race videos because everything happens at high speed; whether it’s a flick about xc racers like the stellar Off Road to Athens or one that looks at the highlights from the last World Cup DH season, these shows offer an intensity that isn’t always found in the more hey bro freeride films.
