Over the past decade, cyclists on a budget have been stuck between their old, underperforming components and the high performance gear that are part and parcel of new bikes. But things have started to change over the past couple of years, with newer technologies (10 speed, Hollowtech II, etc) filtering down from the high to low end at a faster pace than the years previous. The 2006 Tour de France will be remembered for a couple of memorable stages: Floyd Landis’ catastrophic crack in the Alps on stage 16 and his miraculous comeback the following day. Of course, all of that hard work was obliterated the moment news leaked out that Landis failed a drug test and, before the results could be challenged, the mainstream media took the story and ran with it. We stock, carry, and sell our share of Norco road bikes over the course of the season and we keep pretty close tabs on what’s going on in that part of the cycling world. The inexperienced commentator might argue that road bikes rarely change but that’s obviously not the case, with companies like SRAM making a significant investment by introducing its Force gruppo to the world this past year.
